The project was designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and aims to renew access to the historic center of the Maltese city, the latter already protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex consists of the new Parliament buildings and the new gateway to the city.

In full harmony with the local stone, the use of steel took center stage in both the street furniture, the bridge and the structures and finishes inside the Parliament.
