Multi-Materials Recovery Facility (MMRF)

Hal Far (Malta)

Treatment plant for electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), tyres, wood, mattresses, expanded polystyrene and fabrics

Implementation period: 2019 - 2023

Created with an investment of approximately 20 million euros, of which 13.3 million of European funding through the European Regional Development Fund, the Multi-Materials Recovery Facility (MMRF) will improve the waste management capacity of WasteServ Ltd. The processes carried out in this facility are aimed at diverting recoverable materials from landfill, in line with the waste management objectives issued by the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC.
Located in the Ħal Far area of Malta, this facility will process electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), as well as tyres, wood, mattresses, expanded polystyrene and textiles. The collected materials will be segregated, packaged and shipped for export. Each material will be treated and processed separately with the aim of increasing the value of the material for export by maximizing the use of space and efficiency.
