Malta International Airport

Mezzanine and staircase at the renovated Food Court

Implementation period: 2021 - 2022

Bertazzon was awarded the contract in Design & Build for the renovation of the dining area at Malta International Airport. The intervention consists of a mezzanine in order to increase the passenger reception area and the related staircase connecting with the food court.

The mezzanine was built with a structure composed of open-section steel beams connected to the existing structure with in-situ welding, and when assembly was completed, fireproof plaster was applied to ensure design fire resistance. The helical connecting staircase was entirely built in the workshops in Vidor and then disassembled into 3 pieces for easy transport to the construction site. When assembly was finished, intumescent painting was done, and the steps were covered in marble by a local firm specializing in fine finishes.
